The word ‘Modern’ when thinking of kitchen design is quite commonly misinterpreted. Many assume modern and contemporary are one and the same, however there is quite a significant difference between the two when it comes to design styles.

Technically, modern is an up to date version of an older style. It refers to a period of time from around the mid 20th Century, a time which we now refer to as retro. But at the time, it was a style that marked a complete change from the previous traditions.

Mid-Century Modern, to give it it’s correct title, allows for the colours and textures of extensive materials to dominate the room. Modern kitchens are often streamlined spaces of simple designs, shiny appliances and a lack of unnecessary clutter.
